Development situation of family farms in Guangxi and its countermeasures

  • ObjectiveThe study aimed to investigate and analyze the development situation of Guangxi family farms in order to provide references for further and orderly development of Guangxi family farms. MethodThe methods of material investigation combining with questionnaire survey and emphasis investigation were used to investigate the overall develop-ment, regional development and standardized management system of Guangxi family farms, and analyze its internal and ex-ternal restraining factors. Based on the results, development direction, key tasks and countermeasures were recommended.ResultMost of Guangxi family farms mainly engaged in crop production of small scale operation. However, the quantity of Guangxi family farms grew exponentially, and large-scaled growers, operating income of Guangxi family farms and financial support from government increased year by year. Family farms in Guangxi developed smoothly in areas with better agricultur-al economy such as Xijiang River Basin and Beibu Gulf Economic Zone. The judging standards and registration procedures of Guangxi family farms were dominated by county level and the related support policies were only a few. The external restrain-ing factors included slow process of urbanization, deficiency in rural land system innovation, lagging rural financial service, underdeveloped agricultural social service system, etc. The internal restraining factors included shortage of self-accumula-tion, limited self-development ability, low quality of family farm owners, weak infrastructure, etc. SuggestionAccording to the situation of low-level urbanization and excess rural labors, small and medium scaled(3.33-13.33 ha) family farms will play a dominant role in Guangxi for a long period. In the future, the emphasis of developing Guangxi family farms should be put on increase of internal and external organizational degree of family farms, promotion of intensive production according to local conditions, enhancement of development ability by using modern agricultural productive factors, cultivation of fami-ly farm product brand, and broadening of marketing channel. Therefore, the countermeasures including improvement of family farm management system, innovation of land circulation system, enhancement of family farmers quality, construction of new type of social service system, and implementation of policies to promote the development of family farms, are put for-ward in order to ensure the orderly and healthy development of Guangxi family farms.
