Chinese cane sugar industry competitiveness based on panel data model

  • ObjectiveThe purposes of this study were to locate the Chinese competitive position of the cane sugar in-dustry accurately,seek ways for exploring industrial potential and provide suggestions for maintaining stability of the su-garcane areas and promoting the sustainable development of domestic sugarcane industry.MethodThe status of domes-tic cane sugar industry competitiveness was positioned by making full use of cost-profit ratio,output,imports and other indicators.Based on the panel data model,the competitiveness of major sugarcane producing areas was analyzed.Re-sultIn major sugarcane producing areas of China,input was in direct proportion to production value;delay of total pro-duction value of sugarcane had positive effects on sugarcane production in the next season;the yields and output costs did not vary largely among the major sugarcane producing areas.SuggestionChinese sugar industry lacks international com-petitiveness,so it is necessary to increase the effective raw sugarcane production investment,maintain the economic iner-tia of total output in main sugarcane producing areas,promote the processing industry to share resources,establish the ef-fects of scale economy,control the production and processing costs.With these efforts,the dependence on imports can be reduced to improve the domestic competitiveness of the sugar industry.
