Nutrient quality and healthcare function evaluation for branches of main mulberry varieties in Guangxi

  • Objective The aim of the paper was to evaluate nutrient properties and healthcare function of branches of different mulberry varieties,and screen special varieties rich in nutrients and healthcare function to promote the sustainable development of Guangxi sericulture industry.Method Basic nutrient components from branches of 12 main mulberry varieties in Guangxi were tested,including contents of water,ash,fat protein,ratio of sugar to acid and soluble solid;and biological active ingredient with healthcare function were also tested,including contents of total flavonoids,total alkaloids,polyphenol and polysaccharide.Methods of subordinate function analysis and principal component analysis,cluster analysis were applied for comprehensive evaluation on nutritional quality and healthcare function of mulberry.Resuit In terms of nutrient quality,among the 12 mulberry varieties,comprehensive score (Di) of Guisangyou 62 was the highest(2.309),Qiangsang 1 the second,7862×94168 was the lowest(-1.598).All tested materials based on cluster analysis could be divided into four categories:Guisangyou 62 was suitable for food processing and vegetable use dual purpose (class Ⅰ).Qiangsang 1,Nongsang14 and Gouda 10 were suitable for feed processing(class Ⅱ),Guisangyou 12,Shi 11 × 93251 and 7862 × 94168 were suitable for dual-purpose use as alternative varieties (class Ⅲ).Sangteyou 1,Yuesang 11,Lun 40,Sha 2×lun 109 and Sangteyou 2 were suitable for vegetable use(class Ⅳ).As for healthcare function,among the 12 samples,Di ofYuesang 11 was the highest(3.204),Sha 2×lun 109 was the second,Nongsang 14 was lowest(-2.337).All tested materials based on cluster analysis could be divided into four categories:class Ⅰ was suitable for flavonoid-polysaccharide dual purpose use (Yuesang 11),class Ⅱ was suitable for total alkaloid-polyphenol dual purpose use (Guisangyou 12,Guisangyou 62 and Nongsang 14),class Ⅲ was suitable for total alkaloid-flavonoid dual purpose use (Sangteyou 2 and Shi 11 × 93251),class Ⅳ was suitable for dual-purpose use as alternative varieties (Gouda 10,7862 × 94168,Sangteyou 1,Qiangsang 1,Sha 2 × Lun 109 and Lun 40).Conclusion In terms of nutrient quality and healthcare function,the 12 main mulberry varieties in Guangxi can be divided into 4 categories based on cluster analysis.In actual production,nutrient quality and healthcare function characteristics of different mulberry varieties should be taken into consideration,and comprehensively develop and utilize the resources to promote diversified development of sericulture industry in Guangxi sericulture area.
