Influence factors on rooting of cutting Malvaviscus arboreus

  • ObjectiveIn the present study, vegetative propagation system of Malvaviscus arboreus was established,in order to provide technical support for M. arboreus seedling propagation. MethodThe effects of seven treatments(different kinds of rooting agents and different concentrations) and three kinds of cutting diameters on rooting rate, root number and maximum root length of hardwood-cuttings were investigated by two factors cross grouping tests. The effects of seven treat-ments(different kinds of rooting agents and different concentrations) of rooting agents and five kinds of cuttings length on softwood cuttings were investigated by single factor test. The effects of five kinds of transplanting media and fertilization on growth of cutting seedlings were investigated at the same time. ResultThe results showed that the optimal diameter for hardwood-cuttings of M. arboreus was 1.0-1.5 cm, and 1000 mg/L IBA was the best rooting agent. With such treatment, the rooting rate was 100.00%, average root number 57.75, maximum root length 9.25 cm. In terms of softwood-cuttings, the optimum length of soft cuttings was 6.0-7.0 cm, and rooting rate was 100.00%, average root number 8.83, maximum root length 4.43 cm. 1000 mg/L GGR-6 was the optimal rooting agent. When applying it, rooting rate was 99.26%, average root number 3.63 and maximum root length 2.69 cm. Peat soil was the best transplanting substrate for cutting seedlings. Seven days after transplanting , applying compound fertilizer(N:P:K=15:15:15) diluted with water to 1:1600 every ten days could effectively promote the growth of cutting seedlings. ConcludeM. arboreus can be bred effectively through hard-wood cutting and softwood cutting.
