Abstract:
ObjectiveIn order to provide scientific basis for prediction and comprehensive control of Chilo auricilius Dudgeon, the effects of different host plants on the growth and development of C.auricilius were studied.MethodUn-der the conditions of 27.5℃,relative humidity 80% and illumination L:D=12 h:12 h,each one of the five host plants (rice, coix, sugarcane, maize, and water-oat)was pused to feed 100 C.auricilius nymphal.Dead nymphal, pupal weight, pupal length, survival rate and sex ratio were recorded. In addition,25 nymphals were fed separately using each plant men-tioned above, and instar duration and pupation date of each nymphal were recorded at the same time of each day.ResultWhen C. auricilius were fed with rice, coix, sugarcane, maize and water-oat,duration of the 2ndinstar nymphal to pu-pal were 10.12,13.00,9.52,14.69 and 14.96 d. Nymphal survival rates were 51.00%,30.00%,27.00%,26.00% and 59.00%.Pupal survival rates were 68.63%,83.33%,74.07%,53.85% and 88.13%.The female pupal weights were 4.9, 4.1,4.4,4.8,5.0 mg/pupal and male pupal weight 3.1,2.9,3.6,3.6,3.1 mg/pupal.Female pupal lengths were 12.29, 11.59,11.75,11.67,11.98 mm/pupal and male pupal lengths 10.71,10.21,10.39,11.37,10.40 mm/pupal.The sex ratios were 2.00,1.14,0.42,1.60 and 0.72.ConclusionRice is the most beneficial host plant for the growth and development of C.auricilius, and water-oat is the second optimal one.
